The real question isn't 'where'
Most students walk in asking, "USA or UK?". That is the wrong first question. The right first question is simpler and harder: Does an overseas degree meaningfully change my career, and can my family afford it without pain?

1. What is the career I actually want?
Not the job your cousin has. Not the job on a LinkedIn ad. The specific role you can describe in one sentence. If you can't, an overseas degree won't clarify it — a gap year, an internship, or three months of shadowing will.
2. Can we fund this without mortgaging the family home?
3. What does the Indian alternative look like?
A seat at a top IIT, IIM, NLU, AIIMS or ISB is worth more than most foreign master's degrees on pure ROI. Compare like-for-like before assuming abroad wins.
4. Do I want to work there, or come back?
Countries reward you very differently based on this answer. Germany, Ireland and Canada tilt toward staying. The UK, USA and Australia often push you home unless you land a specific visa slot.
5. Am I picking this country, or is my consultant?
6. Is the timing right — for me, and for the market?
Job markets shift. Visa policies shift. Currency shifts. A programme that was a slam-dunk in 2019 may be marginal today. Decide with 2026 data, not 2019 stories.
